Spain
From the lush green Northern coast to the sunshine coast in the south, to the cities bursting with cultural sights, Spain really has something to offer everyone on any budget. The roads and infrastructure are great and we have had no problems driving from Madrid to the South and many other places too.
Spain is a country with many autonomous regions such as Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia and many islands in the mediterranean and Atlantic. Each region has a different culture, food and scenery, with some having their own languages as well, although Spanish is spoken everywhere. It is still a monarchy, but also a democracy.
It was shaped by the Romans, Greeks, Arab Moors, Jews and Roma Gypsies etc who have left behind their music, architecture and culinary influence. Spain is now a very diverse European country, different from region to region, with lots of history and atmosphere. The Spanish do love to party and there are fiestas all over the country, Which are great to witness.
My favourite cities I have visited in Spain are Seville, Granada and San Sebastian. All fabulous cultural cities with great food! For a family holiday I would recommend the southern region of Andalucia. I have enjoyed every city and region I have visited though, which are also excellent value for money. Spain also has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe. I always feel safe there.
The roads are very good in Spain, but the small towns will have narrow roads and a small hire car is sensible here.
