Mostar
The medieval town of Mostar straddles the river Neretva, with It's famous stone bridge the heart of the old town and a UNESCO world heritage site. The hussle and bussle of the market stall shops and cafes either side of the bridge compete with the gushing waterfalls draining down from the mountains, through the stone wall outlets into the turquoise river. It is the historical capital of Herzegovina. Sarajevo is now the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina.
We found the local people to be genuinely warm and welcoming.

Weather
The winter is cold in Moster around -1c in January and very hot in the summer around 35c in July/August. It was about 14c when we visited in March. Spring and Autumn are the best times to visit.

Food
The food in Bosnia and Herzegovina is much cheaper than nearby Croatia and Montenegro. The cost of living in general is lower here. Mostar has a great choice of excellent food from the cultural mix of the people that live here as well as International food, a diverse culinary experience and something to please everyone.
Although meat features heavily in the diet here, vegetarian and vegan options are also available. We loved the sweets such as local style baklava and Bosnian delight sweets.
The popular dishes include Cevapi (A kofte kebab), dolma, Bosanski Lonac (beef stew), Japrak, (beef in cabbage) and Smokvara ( fig dessert).

Crime
Crime is low in Mostar, with pick pockets the main concern in any tourist areas, Theft from cars is also an issue. You should stick to paths and roads as there is still a danger in this country of landmines outside the town.
