SALZBURG
* All the writing and photos below are my own work, except for the links.
Whilst driving to Salzburg from Munich, there was obviously only one soundtrack playing in the car, A piece of Mozart music!! Mozart is Salzburg's most famous son. one of the best composers and performers of all time. You can buy Mozart themed pretzels and Mozart's balls sweets lol. They are delicious. Mozart is not the only famous musical association with Salzburg. It is also famous for the filming location for the "Sound of Music".
Salzburg is a beautiful mountain city nestled in the Alps overlooking the Bavarian region of Germany. The Salzach river meanders peacefully through the city. The medieval and baroque old town is a UNESCO world heritage site.
The word Salz means salt and Burg means fortress. It was full of salt mines, long before it became a tourist destination. The Fortress Hohensalzburg towers majestically over this attractive, interesting city.

Food
Food in Salzburg seemed to me to be more focused on desserts and snacks, which suited me. Of course there is schnitzel and grostl, but other popular dishes include tafelspitz and various sausage and potato dishes. Now the delicious desserts include sacher torte, strudel of course and salzburger Nockerl.

Accommodation
I personally would only stay in Salzburg for a weekend as it is a lovely, but small city and would combine it with another nearby city from the list I mentioned above. We did Munich and Salzburg.

Crime
Salzburg is a very safe city. Even pickpockets are only an occasional problem. The streets are well lit and police are visible. It is safe for solo females and safe to walk around at night.
